Poland Implements Stricter Regulations for Ukrainian Refugees

(MENAFN) Poland’s President, Karol Nawrocki, has enacted a new law that imposes stricter requirements on Ukrainian refugees seeking access to public benefits.

Although the legislation permits Ukrainians to remain in Poland until at least March 2026, it establishes conditions for accessing support programs.

Notably, to receive the monthly “800 plus” zloty child allowance—equivalent to $220 or more—at least one parent must present proof of employment, and all dependent children must be enrolled in school.

In addition to the child benefit, several other forms of assistance, such as healthcare services, prescription subsidies, and dental and medical care, will now be exclusively available to those Ukrainian refugees who are gainfully employed within Poland.

Refugees are also required to demonstrate that their income reaches at least 50% of the national minimum wage.

Authorities will verify this requirement on a monthly basis. However, individuals with disabilities will be exempt from some of these new regulations.

According to Zbigniew Bogucki, the head of the president’s office, the newly passed law is intended to bring an end to what he described as “tourism from Ukraine at the expense of Polish taxpayers.”

He emphasized that these measures are designed to ensure fairness and proper use of national resources.

President Nawrocki is also preparing to propose two more legislative initiatives affecting Ukrainian refugees. One will aim to make the path to Polish citizenship more stringent, while the other will seek to outlaw the “promotion of hardline Ukrainian nationalist movements,” Bogucki added.
