Poland plans bid to host 2040 Summer Olympics
The government unveiled the “Warsaw 2040 Sports Development Strategy”, designed to strengthen the country’s chances of hosting the Games by upgrading sports infrastructure and enhancing athlete performance. The program is scheduled to launch next year and includes significant initiatives such as hiring 1,500 new coaches and implementing a four-year funding model for sports associations.
The plan also allocates 100 billion Polish zloty ($24 billion) in investments toward national sports development. Prime Minister Donald Tusk described the ambition to host the Olympics as a “realistic goal,” referencing Poland’s successful experience hosting Euro 2012.
Although the International Olympic Committee has yet to open the formal bidding process, Poland expects to submit its application by early 2026.
