Poland Rules Out Involvement in Any US-Iran Operation

(MENAFN) Poland has no involvement in any US military operation connected to Iran, the country's defense minister stated flatly on Tuesday, seeking to draw a clear line as speculation mounts over how far the Middle East conflict could pull in NATO allies.

"No such request has been made. Poland is not participating in this operation," Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz told a private broadcaster during an ongoing visit to the United States.

But while ruling out direct military involvement, Kosiniak-Kamysz sounded a stark alarm over the conflict's downstream consequences — warning that a prolonged war in the Middle East could place severe pressure on Western arms production and weapons supply chains at a moment when demand is already running high.

"Polish, European and American industries must shift into sixth gear," he said, calling on the Western defense industry to enter "full alert mode."

The minister flagged that US weapons systems are shared widely among American allies in the Persian Gulf, meaning wartime consumption could ripple through supply lines and delay equipment transfers elsewhere — including to Ukraine.

"All of this will affect production capacity and the transfer of this production to Ukraine, as well as European purchases of American equipment for Ukraine. This is also a Polish matter," he said. "I have no information about delays, but these are only the first few days, so we will be analyzing this very carefully."

Kosiniak-Kamysz also raised the specter of wider geopolitical fallout, pointing specifically to the Strait of Hormuz — the vital artery through which a significant share of global oil passes. Any closure of the waterway, he cautioned, would send energy prices soaring and hand Russia a substantial economic windfall through inflated revenues from its raw material exports.

The minister's Washington visit was anchored by a ceremony at which President Donald Trump posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor to Sgt. Michael Ollis, a US soldier killed in Afghanistan in 2013 while using his body to shield wounded Polish officer Capt. Karol Cierpica. Both Cierpica and Polish officials attended the solemn tribute.
